Michael Miskin Psychotherapy

About my Practice:

Because of each person’s uniqueness, therapy must not be formulistic or mechanical. The art of therapy is to recognize and encourage individuality with sensitivity and understanding.

Understanding the patient’s dynamics requires being able to recognize the meaning of his experience at all levels, from the trivial to the profound, while at the same time, working through the different layers of the armour. As we go, the patient will function more and more from his or her core. This process of integration allows increased self-awareness, independence, and especially a fuller capacity to love.

Although Reich’s description of therapy is essentially correct, I don't try to emulate him. I can't ask the patient to "be himself" if I am not myself.
